The claws help them to grip tree branches. Sloths hang upside down as they go along a branch.

But sloths are good swimmers. They can swim across a river. They can splash into a river by dropping down from a tree.
Sloths munch on leaves, twigs, buds and fruit.
It is hard for a sloth's body to turn food into energy. So it never has much energy. That is why a sloth is so slow!
Sloths sleep for much of the day. A sloth can sleep in the fork of a tree.
Sloths give birth to one baby a year.
The baby holds on to the mum's belly. The baby stays with the mum for less than a year.
