Pygmy marmoset
The pygmy marmoset is a monkey. In fact, it is the smallest monkey in the world. They are so tiny, one can fit in your hand!
This monkey has to watch out for a lot of predators. Wild cats, hawks and snakes all like to eat this tiny monkey.
But this monkey is good at watching out. It can turn its head backwards.
Pygmy marmosets live in South America in rain forests where there are lots of hiding places.
They do a lot of climbing because they love to eat tree sap. They cling to a tree trunk and bite a hole in the bark. |
When the tree sap oozes out, they lap it up with their tongue. The sap also attracts bugs. The pygmy marmosets eat the bugs too!
A baby monkey clings on to its mum's back.
