Penguins have wings but do not fly. They can swim as their wings are like flippers.
Penguins live in different places. Most penguins live in Antarctica. Antarctica is at the bottom of the map.

Each year they go onto land to lay eggs. Lots of penguins lay eggs near each other. We call this a rookery or a colony.

When the chick hatches from the egg, mum and dad help feed it and look after it.

Penguin chicks grow quickly. Soon their fluffy brown feathers fall out and they grow black and white feathers.

Antarctica is freezing all the time! It is so cold that when it snows, the snow cannot melt. So, ice sits on top of the land.
