Meerkats live in the hot desert in Africa.
Meerkats have long claws. The claws help them to dig.
Meerkats are good diggers. They dig tunnels under the ground. The tunnels are their homes. They dig to find bugs too. Meerkats like to eat bugs.
Meerkats can eat frogs and eggs too.

When meerkats look for food, one meerkat is a guard. The guard stands on top of a big rock. The guard's job is to look out for jackals and hawks. They want to eat meerkats. |
A meerkat guard barks if it sees a jackal or a hawk. When the meerkats hear the guard's bark, they dash back into the tunnels.
